White Asparagus

Popular in Germany in the spring, white asparagus has a very delicate flavor and this recipe really enhances its taste

  • Vegetable peeler


  • 2 pounds white asparagus
  • 1 TBSP butter
  • 2 tsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp sugar


  • Peel the asparagus with a vegetable peeler.
  • In a large pot, bring about 1 quart of water to a boil.
  • Add the butter, lemon juice, salt, sugar, and the asparagus.
  • Cook the asparagus for 15 mins. The asparagus should feel soft when poked with a knife. If not, cook for another 5 mins.
  • Remove the asparagus from the pot and transfer to a separate plate or serving tray.
