My Experience with Essential Oils

Growing up in Germany, we would often spend summers in Southern France when I was a teenager. I will never forget the lovely smell of lavender that would fill the air in the entire region when they were distilling it. And of course, every year, I would get myself a bottle or two of lavender essential oil.

Fast forward to when I was a young mother to my boys. Still living in Germany, I would need some remedy for them when they had the sniffles. If you have kids you probably know how cranky they get when they can’t breathe. It was then and there that I learned about a kid-safe essential oil blend for respiratory issues. Since mint can be too strong for small children, I would initially buy a blend and then make my own from fir needle and eucalyptus. I just put a few drops of that blend on their shirt collar and it would help immensely!

Later, when we had already moved to the United States, I was using essential oils here and there. To further my knowledge, I bought books and read many websites and blogs to learn more about them.

More recently, it felt like essential oils had become very trendy. I was invited to essential oil parties of friends that really only had one purpose: to get me to buy their oils and get a membership.

As a result, I dug a bit deeper into those popular essential oil companies, learning about certification and standards. I can now confidently say that I have found the best essential oil company for me. Keep reading about my 10 top reasons why!

Plant Therapy Essential Oils

For full disclosure, I want to mention that this is NOT a sponsored post in any way! Plant Therapy has not paid me any money or given me anything in exchange for this article. However because I love using their products so much, I have become an affiliate for them. That simply means that when you make a purchase with my link, I make a very small commission – at NO extra cost to you.

Plant Therapy is a US company based in Twin Falls, Idaho.

Every interaction I ever had with them has been nothing but pleasant and honest. Of course, they are in the business to make money! But I feel like they have a lot of integrity and transparency while offering high-quality essential oils at reasonable prices.

10 Reasons I love using Plant Therapy Essential Oils

Here are my top ten reasons why I can unequivocally recommend Plant Therapy essential oils:

1. They are not an MLM company:

There are at least 2 prominent essential oil companies that are multi-level marketing companies. While not illegal, I don’t believe in that concept. It simply pays for all the middle people without offering more benefits to the end customer. I have tried many of their oils which seem of good quality but way over-priced.

2. You do not need any membership or have to sign up for monthly shipments:

There are some companies out there that entice you to get a membership to get better prices. With products that are over-priced already, you end up having to pay for monthly shipments of essential oils. I want to be able to pick and choose what oils I need and buy and with Plant Therapy I can do that.

3. They sell their essential oils at reasonable prices with free shipping and returns:

When you compare the prices of essential oils by Plant Therapy with some other companies out there, you will notice that their prices are more than reasonable. I don’t mind paying a fair price for good quality. However, I don’t want to pay middlemen. I also really like their free shipping and returns policy. Not to mention that I have always received their products within a few days of ordering.

4. You can buy their oils directly from them or from amazon:

Since so many people like the convenience of shopping with amazon.com, I find it an added plus that you can purchase most if not all of Plant Therapy’s oils from amazon.

5. Plant Therapy offers an organic version of most of their essential oils:

While not perfect, the organic label is still a very good standard. I will buy the organic version if it is available. That is to say that not all of Plant Therapy’s essential oils are available in organic versions but most. And naturally, those are a bit more expensive than their conventional counterparts.

6. They have great education and resources on their website:

I just absolutely love all the resources and free education you can find on their website. It is very easy to navigate. And they have A LOT of information there that can keep you busy for a long time.

7. You can look at third-party lab results of all their essential oils:

Other than pharmaceuticals, there is no oversight over the industry of supplements or essential oils. I do like that Plant Therapy not only uses an independent lab to test and certify the quality of their essential oils, you can actually look at each lab report.

8. They don’t have any gimmicky certifications or meaningless qualifications:

Many essential oil companies will call their products “therapeutic grade” or “certified therapeutic grade. There is no regulation around that term which is meaningless. All essential oils are inherently therapeutic. You will also find that Plant Therapy makes no medical claims even though essential oils have been used for medical conditions and do contain therapeutic qualities.

9. They follow the GMP and GC-MS standard:

In the absence of regulated industry standards, there are some standards that are worth paying attention to. There is the GMP that stands for “good manufacturing practices”. Then there is the GC-MS which is considered “a “gold standard” for forensic substance identification because it is used to perform a 100% specific test, which positively identifies the presence of a particular substance” (Wikipedia). Plant Therapy follows both.

10. You can find a comparison chart for oils blends from other companies:

If you have been getting your essential oil blends from another company you can view this chart to see if Plant Therapy has an equivalent blend to that.

Other Essential Oils companies to consider

Of course, Plant Therapy is not the only company that offers high-quality essential oils at fair prices. Without going into too much detail, I will give you another few companies that I feel are worth a mention:

  • Rocky Mountain Oils: https://amzn.to/3GfxeUs
  • Eden’s Garden: https://amzn.to/3dtSZDI
  • Simply Earth: https://simplyearth.com

I have and will buy an oil from these companies if Plant Therapy does not offer it.

If you have another favorite essential oil company that is not mentioned here, it doesn’t mean that they are bad. I guess the biggest gripe I have is when I feel like their products are over-priced and they are using a lot of meaningless marketing jargon.

2 Books about Essential Oils I love:

Here are two books that I love and use all the time. The first one is very helpful if you’re trying to learn more about a single essential oil, its traditional uses, and healing properties. The second one is great if you’re looking for powerful blends for all sorts of conditions:

The Illustrated Encyclopedia of Essential Oils
The Healing Power of Essential Oils

My Favorite Ways and Recipes to Use Essential Oils:

Sourdough Lemon Cake

Homemade Laundry Detergent

Homemade Dishwasher Detergent

Basis Homemade Cleaners

Lavender Essential Oil for Anxiety

Homemade Tooth Powder

What are your favorite essential oils and their uses? I’d love to hear from you!

  1. I keep a bottle of peppermint oil in my shower & add 1 drop to my shampoo. It’s just enough to add a refreshing wakeup call to my shower. I also add various oils to Epsom salts to make little bath sachets as gifts for friends & clients.
